Honus & Me
Everyone from young players to old-time fans will cheer for Honus & Me, a new play about baseball by Steven Dietz, adapted from the novel by Dan Gutman. Honus & Me runs May 4–28, 2006, on City Theatre’s 272-seat mainstage. This Pittsburgh premiere will be directed by Lou Jacob (Fuddy Meers at City Theatre).
Honus & Me is sponsored by The Pittsburgh Pirates and Dick’s Sporting Goods with the Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum at the History Center as a promotional partner.
In Honus & Me, magical things happen when Little Leaguer Joey Stoshack finds the most valuable baseball card in the world—the T-206 Honus Wagner. Set in contemporary Pittsburgh, Honus & Me is filled with baseball lore and time travel with a twist. It transports the legendary Honus Wagner to the present and takes Joey—and the audience—to the thrilling 1909 World Series between Ty Cobb’s Detroit Tigers and the Pittsburgh Pirates. Families, baseball fans, and those who love an unexpected tale will be enchanted by this surprising new play.
Starring as Honus Wagner will be Randall Newsome, a film director and actor who this year appeared on Broadway in A Touch of the Poet with Gabriel Byrne, directed by Doug Hughes. Joey will be played by Marcus Stevens (Sparky in Forever Plaid at Pittsburgh CLO Cabaret). Also included in the cast are popular Pittsburgh-based actors Jeffrey Carpenter, Martin Giles, Patrick Jordan, Daniel Krell, Mary Rawson, and Robin Walsh.
The design team for City Theatre’s production of Honus & Me includes Tony Ferrieri (Scenic), Paul Tazewell (Costumes), Andrew David Ostrowski (Lighting), and Joe Pino (Sound).
