City Theatre Wants to Read Your Play!
Deadline for submission: March 31, 2010.
Enter the City Theatre Young Playwrights Contest, and make your voice heard!
Selected playwrights will receive productions of their plays directed by professional directors, performed by professional actors, and presented at City Theatre next season as part of the annual Young Playwrights Festival!
What you need to know:
- You must be a resident of Western Pennsylvania.
- You must be between the 7th and 12th grades.
- Original one-act plays only. No screenplays, musicals, or adaptations of other authors’ works.
- You may submit more than one play. Style, subject and length are up to you.
- Collaborations by up to two playwrights will be accepted.
- Scripts must be in STANDARD AMERICAN FORMAT STYLE. Download a style guide.
- City Theatre encourages inclusion of all students and will accept submissions in selected alternative formats to accommodate students with disabilities. Call 412-431-4400 for more information.
- Send three copies of your play, but keep the original at home! Scripts will not be returned to you!
- Each of the three copies must have its own Entry Cover Sheet. Download an entry cover sheet.
- Scripts must be typed, pages must be numbered, and pages must be bound by a single staple in the upper left-hand corner.
- Scripts must be submitted by the playwrights(s), NOT by a teacher or parent.
- Unfortunately we cannot accept e-mail submissions.
Each play submitted will be read by theatre professionals and each playwright will receive a written evaluation of their script (Please note: the response process takes many months—you may not receive your evaluation till late fall of the following school year).
