Stuart Carden Returns to Pittsburgh to Direct 2007 Olivier Award Winner for Best New Play
November 7–December 13, 2009
PITTSBURGH, PA (October 21, 2009)—City Theatre continues its 35th anniversary season with Blackbird by David Harrower. Directed by former City Theatre Associate Artistic Director Stuart Carden, Blackbird will run on City Theatre’s Lester Hamburg Studio stage from November 7–December 13, 2009. The Opening Night performance will take place Friday, November 13.
Blackbird received the 2007 Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Play, beating out Tom Stoppard’s Rock ‘n’ Roll and Peter Morgan’s Frost/Nixon. The New York Post says, “This haunting, powerful, incendiary work is the sort of daring theater far too absent from our stages these days."
Fifteen years ago, Una and Ray had a scandalous affair. They haven't set eyes on each other since. When she tracks him down and forces him to face the shattering consequences of their relationship, the encounter is gripping, surprising, and utterly unforgettable.
Blackbird features Robin Abramson as Una and Steve Pickering as Ray.
The design team includes Tony Ferrieri (Scenic), Crystal Gomes (Costume), Andy Ostrowski (Lighting), and Brad Peterson (Sound).
